E-commerce security

The UK Law Commission has recently concluded that 'writing' includes e-mails and website trading.

In parallel to these EU initiatives, the Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act 2000 ("RIPA") came into force in October 2000 and gives the police and customs & excise authorities the power to intercept electronic communications. It defines the circumstances in which the police may demand access to encryption keys.
